ABC Yoga for Kids

ABC Yoga for Kids

The mission of ABC Yoga for Kids is to educate and empower children across the nation and around the world to practice yoga in order to make better choices for keeping their bodies healthy, both mentally and physically. I have practiced yoga for over 30 years, and am the author of the best-selling and multiple award-winning book The ABCs of Yoga for Kids, which has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. Many schools nationwide are incorporating The ABCs of Yoga for Kids into their school curriculum. For the past 10 years I have taught yoga to children, helping thousands of kids develop a healthy attitude towards their body. I also speak at numerous libraries, schools, bookstores, yoga studios, conferences, and childcare resource centers. Yoga nourishes the mind, body, and spirit and paves the way for a life-long tradition of health and fitness. Any activity for young children is important, considering the nation, including our youth, is under siege by obesity, stress, and diseases like diabetes that stem from poor diet and lack of exercise. It is the goal of ABC Yoga for Kids to create good habits and a foundation for well-being for the kids of our future generation through the engaging practice of yoga.

Alphabet Fitness (A Wellness, Inc. program)

Alphabet Fitness (A Wellness, Inc. program)

Alphabet

WELLNESS, INC. is a MA company that uniquely incorporates peak performance techniques practiced by athletes into the playful learning of the ABCs. This helps children in literate societies develop early physical, cognitive, and emotional wellness skills.

OUR MISSION: to reformulate the teaching of the ABCs into a health and fitness tool for young children growing up in today’s increasingly sedentary, fast paced, technology-focused world. Benefits include: language-linked fitness; alphabet agility; brain-body coordination; stress intervention; cooperation and team play; improved circulation and O2-CO2 ratios; English Alphabet knowledge and communication skills.

As an Advocate of the President's Challenge, Wellness offers a group of free Alphabet Fitness® activities. Its series of specially created Alphabet WorkOuts™, Yoga ABCs™, Alphabet Fun Runs, playful Fitness Fonts, and reinforcement activities enables kids to link early alphabet education to more physically active, athletic learning experiences. Just as athletes cross-train their brains and bodies for peak performance, Alphabet Fitness Kids, PreK-1, use the 26 letters of the alphabet to actively cross-train and condition their body’s muscles to grow, learn, communicate, and perform well.

Designed by Wellness, Inc. for children of all levels of motor and language capacities, the following sample downloads are available for educators and PALA participants to include in their President’s Challenge activities. Alphabet Fitness aligns with Common Core State Standards in the areas of Fitness, English Language Proficiency, ESL, Wellness Mandates, plus UN Article 31 Rights of Child to Play.

Wellness, Inc. looks forward to helping the new collaboration between the President's Challenge and the Institute of Medicine get an early, healthy start in educating the youngest of student bodies. (IOM Report on Educating the Student Body: Taking physical education to school. 5/23/2013)

Choson Martial Arts

Choson Martial Arts

The base martial art we teach is Tang Soo Do, the traditional martial art of Korea. It is not only a martial art; it is an aerobic workout itself. Students improve various areas of their lives by participating in activities that help to build a healthier body and a stronger mind.

Our Goal as a Community Service-Oriented School is to provide disadvantaged and "at risk" children in our community new opportunities, provide them with positive programs, surround them with achievement oriented peers, bring positive influences into their lives by providing the chance to obtain training in martial arts and reward them for staying in school, avoiding drugs and working hard.

Our program was designed around the premise that utilizing dance would attract participants that already love to dance, and also those who do not engage in physical activity on a regular basis. PE Fit

PE Fit

PE Fit Programs were born out of the desire to help students realize the connection between diet, activity level, physical fitness and health.  Often students would express concerns about health issues, dissatisfaction with their body or their performance in athletics and academics without realizing that their daily habits influence all of these areas.  So a mission began in 2001 to educate students at a average sized suburban high school in Akron, Ohio about the importance of exercise and a healthy diet as well as motivate them to get moving!  As a result of the changes made to the PE programs, incredible improvements were experienced by students in their fitness levels, motivation to exercise, eating habits, understanding of health related fitness concepts, academic & athletic performance, body-image, self-esteem and general lifestyle habits.

Share Our Strength

Share Our Strength

Share Our Strength is ending childhood hunger by connecting kids to effective nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals. This work is accomplished through the No Kid Hungry network, made up of private citizens, government officials, business leaders, and others providing innovative hunger solutions in their communities. These partners work together, implementing solutions that break down the barriers that keep kids from healthy food.
Through its Cooking Matters program, the No Kid Hungry campaign educates and empowers low-income families to stretch their food budgets so their kids get healthy meals at home. Cooking Matters participants learn to shop strategically, use nutrition information to make healthier food choices, and cook delicious, affordable meals.
The No Kid Hungry campaign works to shine a national spotlight on the crisis of childhood hunger in America, creating a powerful movement of individuals committed to bold action. The Trust for Public Land

The Trust for Public Land

The Trust for Public Land works to protect the places people care about and to create close-to-home parks-particularly in and near cities, where 85 percent of Americans live. Our goal is to ensure that every child has easy access to a safe place to play in nature. We also conserve working farms, ranches, and forests; lands of historical and cultural importance; rivers, streams, coasts, and watersheds; and other special places where people can experience nature close at hand. The Trust for Public Land was founded to conserve land for people to enjoy as parks, gardens, and other natural places, and we're still the only large conservation organization focused on this goal. Today, nearly ten million Americans live within a ten-minute walk of a park or natural area we've protected. We're working toward a day when everyone has easy access to a safe, green place to play. Parks support the health and well-being of communities. The Trust for Public Land is the go-to organization for communities wanting to protect special places and create close-to-home parks, playgrounds, greenways, and trails, all of which promote exercise and make it easier for people to make healthy lifestyle choices. The Trust for Public Land's Fitness Zone® Program provides free outdoor fitness equipment in local parks-often in neighborhoods where gym memberships are too pricey to be practical. With your support, we're empowering communities with an innovative new resource in the fight against obesity.
